“I’m a civil servant, and I am often away on official businesses because of my job. My mother has been diagnosed with senile dementia since 2013 due to encephalatrophy,but I cannot always stay with her, so I have to send her to the nursing home whenever I am busy with my work.” A patient’s daughter told us.

“To be honest, at first I merely discovered that mum gradually became forgetful, but I just took this as her sign of growing old, and to me it was normal for people who are old to have a poor memory then, thus I didn’t care much about that.”the 48-year-old daughter said, “but while I was with her in her physical examination, the doctor told me that she was suffering the Alzheimer (commonly known as the senile dementia in China)caused by the serious atrophy of her cerebrum. I wish I could have found out the true condition of her disease earlier, she won’t be like this if I had discovered her abnormality and brought her to see the doctor, but now it is too late to say this, all my family and I could do is to look after her carefully.”

The statistics from Beijing health and family planning commission has shown that the population of old people who is attacked by the Alzheimer in Beijing ranges from 150-200 thousand, in 2015,and mostly the whole procedure of the disease is so slow that the majority of patients would continue their life with it for five to ten years or even longer.
